Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund announced his resignation, effective next month, citing personal reasons for his decision.

Hedlund's resignation will go into effect on July 15, and the city council president will assume the role of acting mayor until a special election can be held.

Hedlund was first elected in 2016 and had won a second term in 2019.

Despite facing some controversy during his tenure, Hedlund stated that he is proud of the progress made in Weymouth during his time as mayor.
